Women facing substance use disorders while navigating pregnancy, parenthood, housing instability, and poverty deserve more than a single intervention—they deserve a full continuum of care.
That’s exactly what Magnolia Women’s Recovery Programs, Inc. in Oakland, CA, provides, and it’s why we’re proud to spotlight our work with this extraordinary partner.
MWRP offers comprehensive residential treatment and wraparound services for pregnant, postpartum, and parenting women with co-occurring substance use and mental health challenges. Metis has been honored to serve as Magnolia’s trusted evaluation partner across these federally and locally funded initiatives:
- Residential Treatment for Pregnant & Postpartum Women (PPW) — Implementing a mixed-methods evaluation of this SAMHSA-funded program tracking substance use recovery, mental health outcomes, and family wellbeing through participant surveys, assessments, and Magnolia’s Greenspace Health data platform
- Community-Based Mental & Behavioral Health (CBMBH) — Developing the evaluation framework, instruments, and ongoing data analysis for this SAMHSA-funded initiative expanding community behavioral health services for women in MWRP’s care
- Opioid Settlement Mini-Grant (3VCF) — Conducting a focused evaluation of Magnolia’s community opioid prevention program, including Naloxone training and distribution and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) education
- Data for Decision-Making — Supporting Magnolia’s leadership through regular progress summaries, funder reports, and technical assistance — and co-designing a Steering Committee that brings together staff, participants, and partners to ensure that the women served have a direct voice in shaping the program
The outcomes we’ve documented are extraordinary: in just over a year, the PPW program enrolled nearly 3X its annual enrollment target—and every single graduate achieved stable housing, reconnected with their families, and accessed public assistance. Four graduates went on to work as SUD case managers at the very organization that helped them heal.
To the entire Magnolia team: thank you for the transformative, life-changing work you do every day for women and families in Oakland.
