When people don’t know where their next meal will come from, whether they can stay in their homes, or how they’ll build a sustainable career, everything else suffers. That’s why the work of Clinton Hill Community Action in Newark, NJ, is so important and why we’re proud to spotlight a partner we’ve worked alongside for the past three years.

CHCA is a community action agency dedicated to improving the lives of residents in the Clinton Hill neighborhood and throughout Newark’s South Ward. Its work spans food justice, housing, and workforce development, addressing the interconnected challenges that stand between families and stability.

Metis has been proud to support CHCA’s mission through a comprehensive partnership that includes:

  • Food Justice — Evaluating their Mutual Aid Grocery Store and broader food security initiatives using a mixed-methods approach
  • Housing Justice — Evaluating resident estate planning workshops designed to support wealth preservation and intergenerational stability
  • Workforce Development — Evaluating their Green Jobs resident training program, connecting community members to careers in the growing green economy
  • Community Voice — Facilitating a resident Community Participatory Action Research (CPAR) group to interpret evaluation findings and disseminate results throughout the Clinton Hill neighborhood
  • Organizational Capacity — Developing an agency-wide logic model and theory of change, and building data management tools to strengthen internal tracking and reporting
  • Grant Writing — Supporting grant development to secure continued funding for their programs

This is what a true community partnership looks like, and we’re proud to be in CHCA’s corner.

To the entire CHCA team: thank you for the work you do every day for Newark.
