“Leading With Theory: Using a Theory of Change Approach for Leadership Development Evaluations”
Manuel Gutiérrez, vice president and chief operating officer, and Tania Tasse, senior research associate, are the coauthors of the chapter “Leading With Theory: Using a Theory of Change Approach for Leadership Development Evaluations” in The Handbook of Leadership Development Evaluation, edited by Kelly Hannum, Jennifer Martineau, and Claire Reinelt (San Francisco: Jossey Bass and the Center for Creative Leadership, 2007). The chap ter describes pathway mapping — a process critical to the theory-of-change approach to evaluation. Pathway mapping helps evaluators determine what types of evi dence they should look for to measure pro gram success and helps stakeholders gain clarity about how and why a leadership-development initiative should result in identified objectives.
“Systems Change as an Outcome and a Process in the Work of Community Collaboratives for Health”
A paper coauthored by Metis President Stan Schneider was published in the April 2007 issue of the American Journal of Community Psychology. The paper, “Systems Change as an Outcome and a Process in the Work of Community Collaboratives for Health,” was based on the work done by Metis Associates in Georgia, whose Family Connection initiative is the nation’s largest statewide network of community collaboratives. The paper explores the widespread devel opment of such initiatives, which aim to improve community health by changing systems and policies related to health care. This study investigated some of the condi tions under which collaboratives may be most likely to institute system changes.
