Ada Chau Receives Making a Meaningful Difference Award

Ada Chau

Metis congratulates Ada Chau, who ran a half-marathon to raise money for the organization Housing Works!

Ada Chau, a financial analyst at Metis since 2002, is the recipient of the fifth annual Warren Stewart Making a Meaningful Difference Award, announced on Friday, December 14, 2012. The award is presented in honor of Metis's cherished colleague Warren Stewart, who passed away in 2007 after a long struggle against brain cancer.

Ada was honored for conquering her first half-marathon to raise money for the organization Housing Works, which provides services to people affected by AIDS and homelessness. Ada, who had been a supporter of the organization, received an email in July 2012 announcing that a fundraising race would be held in three months, in Costa Rica. Always averse to running, she decided to get in shape quickly for the run. Soon, she was part of a six-person team—a diverse group of experienced and new runners—headed for Costa Rica.

“The scenery along the race route was gorgeous, but what made it really special was the people who came out to cheer,” says Ada, who focused her thoughts on a close friend who is HIV positive and the people who would benefit from the cause she was supporting.

For Ada, the pay-off was a four-day Costa Rican vacation. For Housing Works, it was the $1,500 that she raised from her friends and colleagues—50 percent above her goal—to which Metis added an additional $500 donation. Metis also donated $500 to Gilda's Club, the cancer-support organization, as it does annually in Warren Stewart's memory.

“This was a win-win-win for Ada, Housing Works, Gilda's Club, and all of us at Metis who were inspired to see her tenaciously pursue this goal. Congratulations, Ada!” said Stan Schneider, Metis president.
