Kathleen Agaton Receives 2013 Making a Meaningful Difference Award

Kathleen Agaton

Kathleen Agaton, a senior research associate at Metis, is the sixth recipient of the annual Warren Stewart Making a Meaningful Difference Award, announced on Tuesday, December 17, 2013. The award is presented in honor of Metis’s cherished colleague Warren Stewart, who passed away in 2007.

Kathleen received the award for donating generously of her time and expertise to help improve the quality of life of women, children, and families in New York City and beyond through her volunteer and leadership activities. For the past two years, she has led Metis’s participation in NY Cares Day, which has involved coordinating a team of staff volunteers to help beautify two Brooklyn public schools by painting indoor and outdoor murals.

Since 2012, Kathleen has served on the board of the LCU Fund for Women’s Education, a foundation whose mission is to ease the burden of New York housing costs for promising women students preparing for careers that serve the community. Also since 2012, she has served on the Grants Advisory Committee of The New York Women’s Foundation. The New York Women’s Foundation is a cross-cultural alliance of women catalyzing partnerships and leveraging human and financial capital to achieve sustained economic security and justice for women and girls in New York City.

Recipients of the Making a Meaningful Difference award receive a commemorative plaque and have their names engraved on another plate that is displayed at Metis. In addition, Metis will make a donation to Gilda’s Club (which was such a source of support for Warren Stewart and his family during his illness) and a matching donation to a charity of the honoree’s choosing.
